Assessment of urban flood vulnerability using the social-ecological-technological systems framework in six US cities

New Research on Urban Flood Risk Featured in 2021 AAG Meeting and Yonkers Feasibility Study

USL’s Pablo Herreros Cantis is presenting research from the Environmental Justice of Urban Flood Risk and Green Infrastructure Solutions project at the American Association of Geographers 2021 Annual Meeting. His presentation is titled, “Applying a Source-to-Impact flood risk assessment to identify priority areas for green infrastructure interventions in a sewershed in Syracuse, NY”. This work is also featured in a new feasibility study released by Groundwork Hudson Valley on the implementation of green infrastructure within selected housing sites in Yonkers, NY. Resilience Quarterly: New Interview Series, “The Roots of Resilience”

Resilience Quarterly launched a new interview series, “Roots of Resilience” featuring conversations and interviews with community activists, organizers, and leaders. In the first piece, New School graduate Sasha Hodson is in conversation with staff members at the Institute for Transformative Mentoring (ITM). In our second piece we sit down with Harleen Marwah and Savita Potarazu, medical students GWU who founded DC COVID Connect.

The editorial team is now accepting applications for its second issue.

USL Welcomes Max Scott, New Student Assistant

The USL welcomes Max Scott, our new student assistant and editor for Resilience Quarterly. Max is an undergraduate senior majoring in Liberal Arts and double minoring in Urban Studies and Capitalism Studies. He currently co-chairs the Outreach Committee of the Western Queens Community Land Trust, and also writes about issues of gentrification and housing policy on his website Buildings of New York.

USL Participates in The Nature of Cities Festival

The USL’s Nature-based solutions for Urban Resilience in the Anthropocene (NATURA) project was a sponsor and participant in the The Nature of Cities Festival. Over 2,300 people from 72 countries participated, and the USL’s Timon McPhearson gave a Keynote address: “Global Insights and challenges on nature-based solutions for urban climate resilience.” To learn more about NATURA-related sessions during the Festival view this video recap featuring Dr. Elizabeth Cook.
