URBES Final Conference: Nature's Solutions for European Urban Areas

January 14, 2015 - Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the EU

The URBES Project's final meeting, which took place at the European Commission and also hosted by Biodiversa and the  Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the EU on Wednesday, 14 January, was an opportunity to share the multiple research outcomes from the project and identify areas for future collaboration in the context of Future Earth to demonstrate the value of nature for urban areas.

#Earth Matters: Designing our Future

The URBIS Dialogues Webinar

This webinar is the 4th in a 15-part 2015/16 URBIS Dialogue Series, and the first of several on ecosystem services. It will take a broad view of the idea of ecosystem services and how to approach assessing the current state of biodiversity and ecosystem services in cities.

Welcome to our newest lab member Yaella Depietri

Yaella earned her PhD in Environmental Sciences at the Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals (ICTA), Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB) (Spain) in 2015. Her PhD has been carried out in collaboration with the United Nations University, Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), Bonn (Germany).  She focuses on urban vulnerability and ecosystem services.

Urban Nature Symposium

October 17, 2015, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm - The Auditorium at 66 West 12th Street, Alvin Johnson / J.M Kaplan Hall

The Urban Nature Symposium, organized in collaboration with the Finnish Cultural Institute in New York (FCINY) and the Environmental Studies Program at The New School, will explore themes of urban ecology, energy, planning and art as they relate to and utilize urban nature. Participants will explore the city as a place for encountering nature and culture, as well as consider the significance of local nature in creating enjoyable, livable habitat for urban residents.
