Advancing Understanding of Nature-Based Solutions through Global Networks

As co-leads of the National Science Foundation supported NATURA network, USL plays a central role in building global knowledge infrastructure on urban nature-based solutions (NBS). Through the NATURA Global Roadmap initiative, USL and partners are synthesizing evidence from hundreds of cities to understand how NBS can be equitably implemented in diverse contexts—from informal settlements to rapidly urbanizing megacities.

The roadmap includes case studies, policy briefs, and teaching tools. A standout effort is NATURA’s Early-Career Network and fellowship program which has supported research exchanges and professional preparation for dozens of early career scientists, researchers and practitioners. Members of the NATURA team also contributed to the U.S. National Nature Assessment and is organizing sessions at the UN Global Forum on Human Settlements and Nature of Cities Festival to disseminate the findings.
