ClimateIQ: Empowering Cities with Hyperlocal Climate Intelligence
ClimateIQ is a first-of-its-kind AI-driven multi-hazard risk assessment platform that aims to assist city planners, community organizations and frontline communities to identify the areas most at risk. Our unique approach combines advanced physics-based models for extreme heat and flooding with machine learning to provide urgently needed information to prioritize resiliency and adaptation efforts. By dramatically reducing simulation times—from weeks to hours—it allows cities and under-resourced communities to access high-resolution hazard maps and prioritize climate adaptation efforts.
In NYC, ClimateIQ outputs are informing city agencies on where to target emergency response services where they are needed most, and where to invest in green infrastructure and other solutions. In Phoenix, neighborhood-scale flood modeling supported by the tool is helping the city and community organizations in flood-prone areas advocate for targeted investments. Stakeholder interviews and usability testing with hundreds of stakeholders have ensured that the ClimateIQ dashboard is accessible and relevant for diverse users, including planners, NGOs, and resilience officers.
