Green Talent

Team: Timon McPhearson, Loan Diep, Chris Kennedy, Mario Balzan

Project Period: January 1, 2025, - December 31, 2028.

The GREEN TALENT project builds capacity and partnerships to support systemic responses to the climate and biodiversity crises, with a focus on strengthening research and innovation skills, knowledge exchange, and cross-sector collaboration. Funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 101217375, the project brings together partners working across climate, biodiversity, policy, and practice to advance more integrated approaches to sustainability and resilience.

NYU Urban Systems Lab contributes to the project through Work Package 3, which focuses on training and capacity building. The Lab’s role is to share applied expertise in urban climate resilience, nature-based solutions, and transdisciplinary research, helping connect the project’s broader climate-biodiversity goals to practical urban challenges and decision-making contexts.

GoGreenNext: A Digital Serious Game for Exploring Nature-Based Urban Resilience

Project Team: Timon McPhearson, Loan Diep, Chris Kennedy, Natalie Pierson, Arysha Gupta

Project Period: 1/1/2024 - 6/30/2028

GoGreenNext is an EU funded Horizon Europe project with the ambition of supporting cities and regions to achieve their climate targets by implementing novel nature-based approaches. For this effort, the Urban Systems Lab team is developing a digital ‘serious game’ to serve as an educational tool for communicating climate change impacts, urban resilience concepts, where the player(s) get to understand decision-making in urban planning by interacting with Nature-Based Solutions (NBS). The game mechanics will be inspired by the labs multiplayer board game Ekos.

The project is co-funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe research framework under grant agreement no. 101137209 and led by a team at Maynooth University.
